The Peace Bringer

I am a warrior,
both strong and proud.
I am a warrior,
who would stand and not be cowed.
I am a warrior,
who dreams of bringing peace.

I went to the rebels across the river.
I burned their town
and killed their fathers.
I brought them peace
by axe of stone and spear of copper.

I went to the barbarians across the border.
I conquered their capital
and enslaved their brothers.
I brought them peace
by sword of iron and arrow of bow.

I went to the mongrels across the mountains.
I destroyed their settlements
and defiled their farms.
I brought them peace
by greasy machines coughing fire.

I went to the savages across the sea.
I murdered their leaders
and banned them from their lands.
I brought them peace
by whips of hymns and treaties of lies.

I went to the nations of the earth
and together, with the lord of evil,
he who does not share power,
I brought them peace.

I brought peace by flame
I brought peace by sword
I brought peace by biting arrow
I brought peace by churning horses
I brought peace by the blood of slaves
I brought peace by spitting metal
I brought peace by disease in the air
I brought peace by deceit and lies
I brought peace by my own hand
I brought peace.

I was a warrior,
who dreamed he could bring peace.
I went to the corners of the globe,
giving freely of my treacherous gift.
And all who received it lived a life of misery.

I dreamed I could bring peace,
but brought only demons
hiding in my shadow.
I brought peace everywhere I went,
carried by my army
of murderers and thieves.

With every swing of my sword
with every command
with every gunshot
with every lie

I brought peace
and destroyed tranquility,
bringing the devil closer to my side.

I brought peace
by destroying my enemies
by murdering leaders
by accusing them of my atrocities.

My peace consumed me
but burned others.
Now I wake up
to ash and dust,
staring out over my kingdom,
my empire of blood,
my reign of hate.
