'Evenness' - an Original Poem

there was talk
of men being built
by children

in their parents' gardens

and christened
with root veg.

all prefiguration voided
by what night had dropped

nondescript in
blanketings

of threatening evenness.

an engine stalled.

a strand of birdsong
mocking the inertia.

time’s defunctive
multipliers lain
sepulchral

as a reign of quietude

descends again, at last,
for some time to come.
