Powerful words

I love to hear poetry read
Rather than performed
I love to hear each word
Appreciated
Rather than memorized
That these words speak to you
Even if they are your own
The intimacy of written language
Is somehow lost
As you grab at the words
As they fly by
Snatching pieces
But they keep moving on
Personality eclipsing
Subtlety and nuance
To survive they must
Learn to scream and shout
