How To Negotiate With Hunger

Clutch your belly
and greet it with a secret handshake
which is firm yet subtle enough
that no one will notice
you are in the company of an old friend

Who does not know to keep a secret
and compulsively rumbles
unless you are buying their silence
promise to double their servings
tell them your next meal is all theirs
Describe to them how delicious each bite is gonna be
by using words that they can taste
constructing sentences that are appetizing
spoken in a tone that is so
exquisite
it leaves your mouth watery

Enough for you to drown this very hunger
in your own spit
call in your enzymes
to sweep this craving off its feet
swiftly
swallow
and plunge it back to the empty digestive pit
from which it dawned
