Poetry Living in the past

I wrote this poem last year after getting close to somebody who was so caught up in the past that it stopped him living in the present moment or even going forward into the future, the past was on a constant repeat to him.

LIVING IN THE PAST

Living in the past
Stops the future from progressing
Keeps you reliving that moment
Still hurting, still stressing

Your not moving forward
Stuck on the same track
You can't change what happened
There's no going back

It's happened already
You've got to focus on now
You need to let go
And accept it somehow

Remember life changes
From day to day
The person you were then
Isn't the same today

Mistakes are made
It's how we learn
What didn't work out
From the fires we burn

Every movement we make
Every single action
Has a consequence
An opposite reaction

Today holds all the power
It's the only changeable point
Trying to change yesterday
Will only ever disappoint

So live in the moment
This moment right now
Picture what you love
Life will take you there somehow

The law of attraction
Attract the things you want
Don't focus on the bad
Or tell yourself you can't

You can do anything
Be who you want to be
Let go of the past
And set yourself free
