The Beauty Beyond (Original Poem)
If you look for beauty on the inside
you will find it everywhere you dare to bare
If you look for beauty on the outside
you will find it everywhere you don't compare
Seeing beauty traditionally is a mistake
You see the only thing that beauty can't be is fake
Because fake smothers beauty in coats of insecurity
Like insect repellent that stops the flow of love from you to me
As much as we'd like to erase,
the parts of us that put us in our place
It's up to us, alone, to embrace,
the ugliness we cannot face
Those lost pieces we've long misplaced,
and learn to love with loving grace

I have been pondering a lot lately the interplay between having a loving, supportive community that can aid you in reconnecting with those misplaced pieces. But, how, like you said, the ultimate embrace of ourselves has to come from us.

I think this is actually very important. It doesn't even need to be a community. Just having one person who knows you well and can notice when you're selling yourself or being unnecessary unloving, can create huge gains in awareness and help you shift your relationship with yourself. Or even a person who just sees you in a more loving light than you do, they can help you appreciate what you see for granted.
So true. It doesn't matter what anyone else sees in us. If we deny it in ourselves, it will still feel out of place and unloved.
