My Visitors

I see the faces of my loved ones

They surround me and smile.

Many I have not seen in years.

But today they have come.

They come to see me and others,

but mostly it is for me.

My children and grandchildren.

My brothers, sisters and cousins.

All want to talk with me today.

I am happy to see them,

but I am tired and want to sleep.

I am old now, not as young as I was.

Oh, why didn’t they come long ago?

Back when I was young and able.

Able to laugh and to have fun.

This will be the last time I see them all.

For today is the day that I will die.

This is my final day of this life.

And this is my final goodbye.
