White Dress

When I think of you
In your white dress,

A bow in your hair

A sprig of flowers
In your hands,

Sent next door
To a children’s birthday party

I grow sad…

Grieved for what we were
And what could never be

And the avalanche of years
Can’t bury the fact

You never wore
Your white dress for me.
