White Dress

When I think of you
In your white dress,

A bow in your hair

A sprig of flowers
In your hands,

Sent next door
To a children’s birthday party

I grow sad…

Grieved for what we were
And what could never be

And the avalanche of years
Can’t bury the fact

You never wore
Your white dress for me.

So sad, and yet a sweet release to admit the truth. Brings back memories, John. Thank you.
