Thoughts on a Wintry Night
Like dust in a shaft;
For one moment there is no one
In all the world.
Only the wind
Like the hiss of an ice skate,
Only a few flakes in the darkness
Melting on my coat.
My heart is not free.
My thoughts fly to you in the city
Your quiet street with its windows
Brightly lit.
We think of each other
In the loneliness of love,
While the snow flies
And the nights are dark.
I love that house - I would sit outside with a wool blanket and a cup of tea - and listen to the snow drops everywhere. It would be so quiet.
The poem is soft and quiet too yet struggling.
hmm...we have the same taste in houses, and I love tea :)
Your response reminds me of an Elinor Wylie poem:
Wherever we go
Silence will fall like dews
On white silence below.
We shall walk in the snow.
Very heartwarming on a wintertime eve
The sight of snowflakes sparkling in a breeze
A loved one near a flaming hearth
And perfumed poetry inspired by love
very nice, @coldmonkey - a poetic response :)

Nice poetry
Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.

I heard and felt
the winter night,
warm though it be
where I am.
I experienced again
the loneliness of love,
no matter how distant
the memories.
Thank you, John.
