Motherhood
If being a mother
Were as simple
As hearts and flowers
And greeting cards—
But it isn’t.
It’s temper and tears,
Anguish and fears—
Mornings
When getting up or lying down
Makes
Little difference.
But every now and then
You look into their eyes
And realize…
Despite all the tiredness
The frustration and fights,
There is something
Of you in each of them—
And for an instant
You know real joy…
Enough to last a whole lifetime—
As long as you remember
This moment
The next time you despair.

Thanks, Bucky. You say you're not a poet, yet you understand the dramatic positioning of words at the ends of lines, juxtaposition and counterpoint...but you're not a poet. Well, you have a better insight into poetics than a hell of a lot of critics out there...and unfortunately, a lot of poets. Thanks for your insightful response.

Mothering is way more than we could ever know, even when we are experiencing it--the ramification, memories and spiritual connection may remain forever. I appreciate your poetic words and the power of your heart. Thanks for sharing.
