Little Voices [Another old poem.]

in #poetry7 years ago (edited)

There they are
the little voices that
no one seems to keep

Loving voices of a demon
in sheep's skin
Clawing out from your nightmares that
no one will ever see

stop sTOP STOP
"You're getting it all wrong,"
they echo back,
"You can't stop now."

"We've only just begun!
Welcoming the carnival,
the pure-laden city sin!
Boys and girls of every age,
Lads and lasses hurling praise
at mindless fun du jour!

Go on - go on!
Complete the task at hand!
A circus hand ohoo - a hand, a hand without its man!
Perhaps, it's wise, to grab with man intact.

No matter, no matter. There's always more to spare.
Like little Suzy, Billy, Bob, and Freckle's little friends!
They made such good exhibits that they ought to recommend.

The tricks and trades of circus aides come out to breathe in tens.
Now take that breath - yes, yes, one more - remember that they're dead.

The dead - don't speak - remember, dearest friend?
So find the next lovely delight,
as the clock ticks full blood-red,

and friend, I hope you hurry,
before my patience ends."

As it turns out,
the voices little -
have large hands.
