SteemitPoetryContest #1: Free to Be Me
This my entry into @terrycraft's Steemit Poetry Contest. I have been writing poetry for over 30 years and I didn't know what a quatrain was. Turns out I write them all the time!

FREE TO BE ME (Competition Entry)
Free from the put downs and squishes
Free from the undesired wishes
Free to live my life
Without being trouble or strife
Free from walking on eggshells
Free from anger spells
Free from the damned lies
Free from the unsuccessful tries
Free from the emotional hold
Free from being told
What to do, who to see
Now I'm free to be me
FREE TO BE ME (Unabridged Entry)

Free from someone else's dreams
No longer coming apart at the seams
Free from walking on eggshells
Free from anger spells
Free from life in a locked cell
Back to a life that is swell
Free from the emotional hold
Free from being told
What to do, who to see
Now I'm free to be me
Never let someone take you
Where you don't like the view
Of who you are or have become
Feeling and emotions totally numb

I loved this poem, and I love how you told the story of becoming free from the emotional abuse that keeps us from fully being ourselves. The abuser always makes us feel like the real us is silly or bad or whatever and we end up doubting ourselves.....it is only when we free ourselves from that kind of thinking and that kind of abusive behavior, that we will once again be free to be fully and wholly ourselves. :)
I enjoyed reading your poem, I like the creative rhyming, like "Squishes" and "Wishes". Thanks for sharing this with us! @ironshield
