Little Owl (Poem #1 // Sempiternitas)

Hi there, Steemians/Steemites!

First post, planning on sharing the occasional poem - written by yours truly. :)
I'm not pretending (nor implying) that I'm a great writer, but I do hope that some of you can relate to the emotion that often lies at the heart of these notes. In this specifc case: a painful break-up.

Sorrow entered
With a smile so bitter
That it made us melt
And cry – confused
We were (to say the least)
Confused like owls
That danced the Paddington
Frisk in a burning church tower
And the bells they sang
‘fare’ and ‘well’
It echoed in our fragile hearts

Oh and sorrow danced
With us, with you
And waltzed us out
In one, two, three
On thin-iced air
That cracked and carved
Our spines and hearts
In this majestic haze
I wore the heavy coat
That was your sadness
Out of love

And sorrow left
Us carved and broken
With a smile so weak
That we could only
Laugh and love like
Fools with heavy coats
But owls can’t dance
Nor fly when sadness
weighs them down
And thus demise
Grew out of laughter

but we could only
Smile so bitter, little owl
Oh sorrow taught us well
Our feathers weary
From the cold
that carved our souls
And the flames that set
this church ablaze so fierce
It made us melt
and cry – confused
and echoed in our fragile hearts
