Factory Girl – An Original Poem
You fought for your country, but couldn't enlist.
You dressed like a man and worked the line,
Rationed and weak under the no smoking sign.
You gave up your metals, old tires and grease,
You handed over everything
In the name of peace.
An assembly line of metallic gore.
After years of demanding more and more,
You were challenged with more than you bargained for,
But you proved your worth in this hour of need.
Indeed, indeed, but not all agreed
And you were forgotten, never mind the deed.
Until the spark that just couldn't resist.
It stole hundreds of lives, you no longer exist.
The spark, the spark that just couldn't resist.
Seventy million dead and you never made the list.
Oh factory girls, who fought for their country,
But could not enlist.
I was a fan from the high school
I am not sure what you mean?
Ever hear the song "Factory Girl," by the Stones. It is on Beggar's Banquet and is one of my favorite Stone's songs. Here is one line-
Waiting for a girl and her knees are much too fat
Waiting for a girl who wears scarves instead of hats
Her zipper's broken down the back
Waiting for a factory girl
I missed that one lol
