I know the reason why you went away
It wasn’t for lack of emotion
I also know I didn’t ask you to stay
It wasn’t that you lacked devotion
I wasn’t moved when you walked out the door
It wasn’t because I didn’t care
I cleaned up the mirror you smashed on the floor
It wasn’t that I thought it fair
I tried to help you; gave it my best shot
You stumbled around in a daze
I tried to help but my efforts were naught
There was no more time for delays.
I know the reason I’m happy today
It isn’t that my armor glistens
I trusted my conscience and now I can say
My mind is awake and it listens
