The Doctor prescribes an apple that may be rotten to the core,

On a land of lost examples it’s unknown just what’s in store.

Where loony shines the soil sprouting deep brown bad apples,

A bullet for invisible war spoils man’s identity in battle.

Farmers till the field and gather produce on the way,

Careful to tie them tight in their browner basket case.

Ask any how to pick as they dust off the ones dropped,

“A good or bad apple depends how a tree is rocked.”

(Inspired by Shutter Island)

Although many mental illnesses are associated with genetic predispositions, many directly sprout from an abusive or neglectful childhood environment.

Skeptics of the medical model suggest caution with overmedication as the silver bullet to adult personality dysfunction, and advise creating counselling or therapy plans alongside prescribing medication. ‘Chemical imbalances’ in the brain caused by such early developmental disruptions cannot be purely medicated, and would push normal away from baseline while continuing to suppress what is active underlying, building up pressure like magma in a volcano before an inevitable collapse.

So the next time you go to the doctor for an antidepressant or ativan because of anxiety, wonder to what extent will this pill prevent the ‘crazy’, or if the medicine just delays it.
