Original Poem "The Human Calamity" by Evan James
The Human Calamity
Internalize, internalize.
The harlots words, the vain disguise:
Rough edges, smooth skin,
Bark stripped trees in a bin.
Identity stolen,
Left dull in the mud.
Retreat inside.
It is nothing.
But do not shun,
Your words pouring forth
From your chapped lips.
Dance through the streets
Your Hispanic
Dance steps.
Show no restraint,
Nor delicate taste
Show that you mean
To join the human race:
Full and filled with passion,
A soul to hold it too.
Right and wrong,
We are hopelessly tangled in blue.
Indecisively determined
And fearfully courageous,
Are our calling card names.
Same all the same
An illusion of fate.
Look at the mirror
Put on a new face,
And come to realize
That We,
You,
I,
Must again internalize.
