LAGOS TRAFFIC CONGESTION

The way people set alarm
For this Lagos traffic is alarming

Husband goes to bed with his wife
Charming. Transient, the nap on her lap
Alarm then blows
In a dashed devotion, they sing and clap
And the cock crows

Husband knows his wife
No, no time for a husband
To know his wife. They defy the bond
Husband leaves wife or wife
Leaves husband. No morning kiss
They grumble and hiss

Laggards face abysmal Lagos traffic jam
In the morning
And mourning
Right leg shuttles between brake and throttle
In a standstill movement like that of a turtle
They get to the office late and knackered
Query comes like love letter and not in placard

Amidst the stress of office work
There is traffic congestion still
All vehicle movements still

Cars wind down glasses
To save premium motor spirit
Gentlemen appear on the road in dark glasses
Stirred by spirits they sip, they search in high spirit

Owner of this motor
'Give us what belongs to us', their motto
Dough. handbags disappear and high phones Though the victims beg in low tones

Cars kiss cars and bruises, they cause
They are rages, abuse and curse
Unworthy cars break down and are stuck
To passers-by, they become laughing stock

In the dusk, not much dust though
From Monday to Friday, cars beam light
Of barricade and barrier
Of tamper and temper
Offence and offence
Of halt and hurt
Of thunger and anger
Of hissing and missing
Of yawning and yearning
Of tiredness and loose attires

Husband ignores repetitive calls of his spouse Waiting hot at home in amatory night blouse
His arrival may not be any time soon
Dinner gets cold with fork and spoon

And bachelors inside their cars
Honk for hawkers of cheap chips
To eat their dinner
Their daily manna
No wife to keep food for them
Not even cold food
Which bachelor cooks by twelve midnight
After driving for six hours?

See the beauty of this Lagos terrific traffic
See how cars are arranged in arrays
With adorable headlights at nights
Cars move slowly at their pace
No rush and no car race
Like fleet of cars following a president
To bury his mother at her residence

There is no doubt, the city is working
And with a drop of rain, flood is walking
Have we all seen the manifesto's promises
To develop the city's premises?
Have we all felt the palliative measures
To alleviate the suffering of the masses?
To ease jam, we need good road network
Going by the high revenue and networth
This bad traffic jam is not anything funny
The only germ that aches the city's tummy
Every problem has a solution. I swear it!

@emmaculate, that traffic looks horrible, and your poem describes such a dismal and sad situation.

The solution is a massive undertaking of public transportation infrastructure such as underground and above grade railway systems, highway systems that circle the city, and have multiple feeder points on and off with major arterial routes to the city center, multi-level parking garages in the heart of the business district, lots of police patrol in cars and on foot to discourage the excessive crime, and emergency support such as adequate fire fighting resources. And these are just the things that someone like myself, without any background in civil planning, can think of off the top of my head.

I hope your government will be able to address this properly some day. It is such a sad situation. It's no wonder people have a hard time finding joy in life together when their day is like this every day.
