The Calling

Wading through waters of your soul
Can you feel me
As I navigate the tides?
Storms are brewing above me
Thunder breaks into me,
Rolling through
Like waves breaking
On rock
Erosion. Eventually
The hardened surface
Will break away

Fire melting ice. There is no
Welcome home mat awaiting me at the door,
But I won’t let that cause a shred of fear
To find its way. Home is where the heart is, they say.
You are home to me, in this hollow haunted soul.

You never had to be alone.
You never had to hide in the shadows.
Hidden away, you’ve let this place
Fall to the thieves, the leeches, and the needy.
They said nobody could love you.
Nobody would stick around… to wait, to be tested.

I’m not like the others.
I may scare, but I do not give up.
I’m not easily swayed.
Let us — you and I
Fix this sacred site
Let us — you and I
Bring you out of the darkness
So you can show the world
What you are made of.
So you can stand tall and strong
Like a fortress
Like an altar
Like a shrine
Lift your eyes. Stare them down.
This is your home.
