TREAD

Flat stones
leading nowhere
footprints
invisible

But they existed
and tread
the very same
hallowed ground

You walk
and stop
and ponder

As they did
and those
before them

Treads untraceable
their stories hidden
in the folds of time

Did their loved ones
yearn to hear
their story
as much as I do now

Pathways overgrown
with time and neglect
but treasures lie
at the end of the trail
