The elephant in the Ritz Ball Room ( 100 Days of Poetry Challenge) [Day #38

The elephant in the Ritz Ball Room

The pale, giant elephant was tired of being ignored.
The cocktail parties held in the ritz ball room, his stomping ground.
Loneliness made food his company,
he consumed until he got too big for the room.
One day he realised,
he could no longer sit at the petite tables and plush chairs.
He stepped to the street with his silent hefty feet.

In his psychedelic suit he pea-ckocked down the avenue,
ready for the eyes to pay him some much needed attention.
Not a soul looked,
they were too busy staring at the light from the screens.
Like bugs, their minds were trapped.

The next day he tried something new,
he painted his ears to mimic butterfly wings.
Again, no heads turned.
They shopped, they walked, they talked.
The elephant's extravagant purchase,
In vain.

A few weeks passed,
the elephant finally gave up.
He went to get a wash,
the closest thing to attention in his sad world.
On this day, the water was mistakenly oil,
The elephant became black.
Depression would not make him complain.
He took to the street, but now with loud feet.
To his surprise , the eyes turned,
the car doors locked,
the people were talking,
this time about him,
security was stalking.
The attention was grim.
He retreated to the ritz
but they would not let him in.

This could have been so much better. It's a great idea but lacks execution I think. I needed to simmer on this idea a bit more, but time is of the essence, one poem a day no delay.

A poem that induces reflection in different strata. I feel that racial discrimination is handled, on the one hand. On the other hand, it tells us how many times we strive to receive acceptance, to fit in and all attempts are not successful and when we least expect it, they fall on us for something that, to begin with, does not matter to us, but others they see. Good job, dear friend.

Yes thank you ! Exactly the point. Better not to be seen than seen djr the color of your skin. The elephant in the Rio is such a popular teen I decided to go with it. A d I’ve realized racism and prejudice are the biggest elephants in the room.
