Leaving Virginia

LEAVING VIRGINIA

You and I were born in the muddy streets of nowhere; down gravel roads which end with impressions of foggy foot prints – your soul wandering in a world of reprise
It was there your thoughts did unfold; hot and Pregnant with desire - the raw discomfort of you mind begging for escape, your ghosts evaporating into cool evening skies
Yet morning had arrived
bathing green hillsides in burnt auburn glow
With intent to abolish or expunge what the stars had once held undisclosed

So, soar with stars through twilight absolute; soar on pewter wings and heed Dominion’s call - the angel’s harp will speed you along your way
And prove to leave lost souls where they’d been found
With faint echoes of eternity left to linger in the sound
Soar on to Rappahannock, to York, o’er Alleghany peak
and nestle ‘neath the dogwood
where mountain laurels will not bloom and lonely tear drops solemnly weep
For fate had proved a cruel mistress
and time was but her henchman
As two souls were both now found
as victims of their own intention.
