A tall tale with no lesson learnt
In tomorrow you find today
Time has always been the enemy
It paddles the boat down the river Styx
Betraying life for two coins of gold
Kings and slaves has it led astray
It comes for fools and wise men alike
The young can't outrun it
The old can't outwit it
The cruel equality of life
often mistaken as its polar opposite
The fall of a tyrant
The resting of an icon
All of this is the same to it
As the leaves fall in winter
As the people shout you're one year older
As the night falls and it gets colder
I am reminded that this man in a dark cloak
Is getting ever closer.
