It should be a time for a hearty joyous feast;
One to last a day or two at least;
With lots of music and festivities to make the world resound;
But how's that going to happen in this noisy town;
It should be a time to lay aside all business cares;
A joyful time of the year, with lots of cheer;

But that's not the case, especially on the streets of Lagos;
A fortnight ago, it was Black Friday, there were no spaces, not even in the Lag Bus;
Christmas is here and there's no more crowding at the malls;
All you hear are wailing of money not being enough;
We've all forgotten that Christmas is not about the gifts or how much you spend;
It's about the smiles you put on faces you know and even those you don't;

So relax, breathe in, breathe out, do you now remember what this is about;
Stay calm, don't shout, it's not about the fun;
It's definitely not about the chicken and it goes beyond the Christmas tree;
Breathe, now you remember what this is about;
Yes, it's about God and his gift of Christ;
Putting your wants on the shelf as you put others first;

Don't let the hustle and bustle of Lagos steal that from you;
It's a season where your soul should be gleaming;
For the birth of Christ gave your life a meaning;
So this Christmas, you should go more of giving;
And yes it doesn't have to be money;

Give a smile,

Give some food,

Give someone a lift,

Give your time,

Give a helping hand,

Give your friendship,

Give your love,

Give it with all of your heart,

There's really no end to what you can give;
For there was nothing Christ didn't give;
For that's the best way to live and it's also the best way to celebrate Christmas.
