"An Armistice Day Lament"

~by Duncan Cary Palmer~

~
How the mighty have fallen,
rightly to be mourned.

But let us also
pause and lament…

The beliefs
The ideas
The perverse notions,

Misbegotten memes
that send our sons
to early graves.

Should we not
pause today, indeed?

Despise the fraud?
Discount the hype,
Decry the pride,
Deny the hubris.

Can we not see
How poorly used we are?

Manipulated,
Maneuvered,
Misdirected.

Eisenhower
was right,
As was J.F.K.

Arms dealers,
Oilmen,
Politicians,
Bankers...

They march us
off to war,
while the golden river of
our children’s blood
pours into vaults
already overflowing.
~

Thank you so very much. I am truly honored.

Wow, great poem! So true. I wish i couldve seen it on veterans day.
I was your 700th follower! Congratulations on that milestone ;) take care.

I abhor seeing politcians turn up to lay a wreath in front of the cameras at Remembetance Day, Anzac Day, Armistice Day, Veterans Day or whatever it is called in each country. THEY are the class that sent other men's sons off to fight THEIR wars, while they kept their own sons safe at hone. Other men's sons who, if they came hone at all, came home broken, physically, emotionally or both. It matters not whether you are Australian, American, English, German, Japanese or any other, the grief of loss should not be intruded upon by the political class.

Thank you, @lexclarke, for your very insightful comment.

God speed the day when such evil will end.

"Yes; quaint and curious war is!
You shoot a fellow down
You'd treat if met where any bar is,
Or help to half-a-crown."
–Thomas Hardy

Thanks, friend, for this great supporting literary reference! :D

Duncan is correct in his well written poetic verse. Both Ike and JFK were right in their speeches to the people. Sadly as long as there is a spiritual war between God and Satan AND as long as there is money to make of war and power to be had...there will be war. NO ONE WINS! Unless you are an elite shadow world govt operator who funds both sides and comes out smelling like a rose. Sad and evil. where have all the flowers gone you ask? So did Peter, Paul and Mary. That circle that finds no rest...no end even though it is buried. It awakens to the bugle call of dead flowers on a grave. Imagine the world living in peace said a former Beatle who took a bullet in his own war. God is thee only one who has the power to end the senseless and useless scuffles for human power. Until then.... We leave it in his control and wisdom. Wonderful post my friend!

Thank you Troy, for your thoughtful observations.

Blessings!

Truer words were never spoken... In a war, everyone dies!

Thank you, Rich.
Take care!
