INTIMATE STRANGERS

Loneliness lingered and quietly took a seat,
Love long abandoned wiped her tears away
Eyes glued on the T.V. screen, together though they sat
Never more than now were they ever more apart.

Not a word was spoken or a simple smile exchanged.
No titbits of the day was shared,
or a bit of laughter to show that all was well
Heaving a sigh one after the other, robots to an unseen cue
Intimate strangers if their wishful thoughts come true
Would wish themselves back to a happier time
When laughter was a constant friend
and home was a place where only loved ones lived.

The children all gone, the raising of them all done
The glue that kept them together by their leave have come undone
And though they both long for some chit chat and a need to clear the air
So far apart have they grown, there is little or naught to say

At life’s crossroads they both now stand at loss on what to do.
To take an unchartered walk with chance, a lonesome trek alone
Or unhappy but together stay the road
They both know best and for too long now have trod.
