The Last Pity Party - Original Poem - Information Finding Championship, Season 1, Round 21 Entry

in #poetry6 years ago (edited)

The last pity party
is on for tonight;
The past is a no-show,
The future is bright,
And all of the guests
Will be dressed in off-white
At the final and last pity party.

The last pity party's
The talk of the town;
They'll have free pony rides
And a volunteer clown,
Recycled confetti
That's grey, tan and brown
At the last of the parties of pity.

The last pity party,
Who knows what's in store?
The cops are on standby,
They're guarding the door,
But peace and forgiving
Is what they implore
To the guests of the last pity party.

The last pity party's
Not run of the mill;
The folk'll be swigging
The skankiest swill.
And will they be sick?
Nine out of ten will
As they exit the last pity party.

The last pity party,
The band will play soon;
They'll cover Frank Zappa
With strings out of tune.
The watchers will stomp
As they howl at the moon,
Ringing the last pity party.

The last pity party,
The food is all pale.
The juice is fermented,
The bread almost stale,
And people spend hours
Just chewing their kale,
No dessert at the last pity party.

The last pity party
Has room for your kids,
And ones left unclaimed
Will be put up for bids;
They'll be safe in barrels
With holes in the lids
As you party your last pity party.

The last pity party,
It's time to commence.
The moonbeams reflect
Off the barbed wire fence;
Although we're afraid,
We know we must hence
To the last. Pity. Party.

Hi Chris, I really like your poem so much I'm voting for it. Your poem is like the summary of our lives, ours is the first and only pity party. How we live and die and never experience life again.

Good work mate.

Interesting poem. Definitely has a weird sort of melancholy feel to it.. Like I'm not sure whether it's positive or negative or both or something else.. Very unique nonetheless! I think that's saying something when I don't know how to feel about a piece. That doesn't happen very often! Heh. So definitely a unique and interesting one! Thanks for the entry! :)

Thanks for your feedback! I don't usually adhere to positive or negative. Obviously the Pity Party doesn't really sound like a good time, but on the other hand, it's the last pity party. We don't have to go through it again.

I've always been fascinated by the phrase "pity party" and just wanted to do a little poem around it. Isn't it interesting how letting go of old behaviors can be just as bitter as sweet. we all want to be better people, but we have to say goodbye to the way we used to be, which can be really hard for some reason.

So I guess the poem is about defeating self-pity. Don't complain, don't look for blame, and make the most out of that last pity party.

You're welcome. Thanks for the further explanation of the meaning behind the poem. It has some deep meaning indeed. I tend to think some of those negative qualities are natural and not necessarily "bad", but I think I get that the sentiments are positive in the nature of overcoming old limiting ways, and I think that's a good message in regards to always trying to better yourself for sure!
