The Illiterate Poet
She was poetry
but he was illiterate
he was in no hurry
she stayed considerate
as their time drained
his phrases refrained
one day he learnt the alphabet
but she was gone
he adopted the dictionary
so he could spell mourn
like the pages he read
he was torn
his emotions forlorn
he was too late
her poetry faded
her last stanza dissipated
her rhythm and rhyme failed.
as she said her last line
he realised he ran out of time
