Parallel Lines
Ever apart, never together
Close and yet far
We live our lives with no regrets
But the ever-present shadow on our hearts
Serves as but a reminder of all that could have been
A still born escapade, a fire that smouldered before it could breathe
As the way of life goes, so also, we must follow in this seamless cascade of dominoes
We waltz on on this stage with an ever-present longing
And try to deny the eternal itch we cannot reach
A Gorgonian conundrum of how two lines could be parallel yet twisted and intertwined
Threatens our sanity
Indeed, the gods above and below must bemuse our folly
Because like the flow of a speeding rapid
Our lives flow without pause into a bottomless abyss
And our past, like a jilted bride, is a long-gone but ever-present torment
A mountain of garbage, once petty issues, stands as a testimony to
a horrendous legacy of disappointment and heart ache
A paradoxical existence that defies logic is a sink of life
What are we then? A puzzle that must be solved or destroyed
Alexander may have been the wiser but our existence stands a challenge
Because our lines do indeed meet at the point where hearts are infinitely intertwined.
