"If i knew" SSPC 79

source
If i had known
that the smiles you shone
were ceremonial laughs
of an eerie rite
I could have gone, far
Far away
If i had known
that your sensual stare
oozed still black death
I could have ran, far
Far away
But i never knew
And you never told
I never understood
And you never explained
So here am I
Dead at heart

I like this piece because it is relatable. The simple language and imagery is wrought with heartache. Anyone who's been betrayed by beauty and mirth knows this pain. Often masks of joviality hide a carnivore who is ready to devour. Having been devoured, I can relate. Great piece. 😎
Haha...yes everyone does.
Thanks for your words. They're priceless.
Good poem of loving anguish. Greetings, poet!
