Lunch at the Apocalypse Diner
Do you see any signs for the end: a blood red moon, wars and rumors of wars? They way the world is today, some people are saying, the end is upon us. They say Armageddon, the final battle between good and evil, lies just ahead.
Are these people right? I really don't know and I don't even like to dwell on the possibility. Instead, I try to be happy; try to live without worry or fear; to see every day as important; and make every effort to be kind to the people around me.
About the Poem
Lunch at the Apocalypse Diner is a description of life in the final days. It's about suffering and fire.
Lunch at the Apocalypse Diner
I suck all the moisture
from a pastrami sandwich,
leave the remainder
to crumb on my plate.
The waiter wears a red nose,
carries a pyramid
of glasses
on a round spinning tray.
He comes to my table
and mimes pouring water.
The cook is a slob
in a white butcher's apron.
He cuts his fat thumb
and curses his maker.
I feel the air thin,
hear it snapping its fingers.
Then watch parchment walls
burn down
to ash.
Author's Note*
Not all poetry leaves you felling all warm and fuzzy. In fact poems can connect with the reader on all sorts of emotional levels. This poem addresses our fear of the unknown. It uses a biblical point-of-view; however, the poem is not meant to be preachy. All the poem does is present a difficult question, then leaves the reader to think and conclude for themselves. And maybe, just maybe, even think further to postulate a new question.

This is a perfect description. And yes, I don't spend my days thinking bout doom and gloom stuff - just keep making! :)
Thanks, enjoyed your post as well, hope we can board the mother ship together.
I agree with you that the present is all we have and there is no time for this dreadful predictions.
There were always people who wanted the end to come soon or right now. But it is just a ego trip: "Look, we are so special, we are the last generation before the end, the chosen ones, etc." The ego knows it has an expiration date, so it wants to bring the whole world down with it. "If I lose the game, then it must be game over for all" is the motto behind these self-indulgent apocalyptic prophets. Guess what, they all failed in prediction so far and the world keeps spinning in it's painful joy.
Glad you enjoyed and commented.
Love it @beginningtoend
Too much wars here, we hope the peace coming on! :)
Thanks, glad you like it.
A lot to think about in your work, and I'm always captivated by your art too.
Thanks, I am always surprised what emerges as I fiddle with words. The image I used for this poem is one that I have always liked and seemed to fit the subject well.
Oo sucker punch. Brilliant.
Thanks, you will never see it coming.
