"SteemitPoetryContest #2" By the Gate
By the Gate
At the gate I watch
At the gate my eyes glisten
At the gate I listen
At the gate I lay in wait
At the gate I hear no leaves
as the wind does gently blow
At the gate I hear no sea
no waves on shore a silent sea
At the gate I lay in wait
At the gate I lay in watch
At the gate no squeaking sound
At the gate no life is found
I forget which story it was, I only read it once because the ending really ticked me off, It was one of the "Old Classics" by Homer. I think it was the "Odyssey" Last line, only line I remember the dog died had to be the most suckiest ending of all time. But I was a kid then, and could be remembering wrong.
Awesome poem! @bashadow
Remember "the gate" down south? ;-)
Yep, gates can be real pains sometimes.
Less they have nice wheels like the
berry lady, but ya it also needs to be
remote control open and close eh lol
This poem has a sort of desolate ring to it. Beautiful.
Thanks @greenrun. I was out surfing the steemit waves and saw this poetry contest, and since they wanted a short one, thought I would try. The theme was silence. And I really hated how Homer treated the dog in his story. Hero comes home, faithful dog real happy to see his Master return, Hero ignores dog, dog dies. It really was a sucky ending to a story.
Now I know where the tone of the poem sprang from. I must confess the dog got a bad deal.
nice
we can make a friend ship
A touch of melancholy, a time of silence, a loneliness pervading the air ... well done, and good luck! xox
