ALONE WITH LIBYA

On the dark expressway of human progress,
a street light has just gone off.
Permanently.
Someone has made a face at history.
And the eyewitnesses say that it was Libya!

Oh Libya.
the dirge you now demand from us,
the birds that sing it lost their voice before they became extinct.
Now we have paid the piper,
but how do one recall what we has never known?
But we will try.

We are Africa, where perfect squares are circles.
Libya, We will try.

We have always tried as visitors to this dinner of life where,
beef is served to vegans.
And we were just about adapting when you belched.
oh libya!
we cannot cast you to the sea like they did to Jonah.
And the earth is not a cake,
so how can we break a piece and cast over the border?
Even though we would love to.

As you now retrace the footprints we have wipped off from our sacred mountains.
footprints we have buried a thousand deads to erase..
what other ransome can we raise?
Even though we would love to.

And we thought tomorrow will be girl.
We thought tommorow will be a ripe African girl.
So we can ask as her bride price, our development.
Since our yesterday was raped like the day before our yesterday.
we have all prayed for tommorow.
who would not love to?
Our hope has seen it's menses, but not anymore.
Because of you Libya, we now add three plus two but cannot get five.
And is this not why we now ask you to listen?

For the napkin that stick too long to the baby's excreta,
is often sacrificed with the bath water.
And the headscarf that joins the dance of the storm will not be left undefiled.
In this sea of Oxygen, we have promised not to recount our tilapia neighbours,
because we have already warned of the white fisherman.
For as slaves of underdevelopment,
we must continue our press to our promised asylums.
And concerning this Libya, nothing can stop us, not even you.
And I just hope you are listening.
For when there has been a thunder,
even the deaf is considered warned.

So as we let the earth continue it waltz and we our watch.
We understand that none can come between today and tomorrow.
Or choose for today another heir, other than tomorrow.
Libya, none has tried and succeeded before,
except those already dead.
