Triumph - an original poem by Andy Loughney

Found an idol in the river

He was sitting on a turtle

So I put him in my pocket

And brought him to my mantle

I offered him my senses

Tried to be a thoughtful giver

Filled my head with what he wanted

And forgot about the river

My home got awful cluttered

By the gifts for bringing solace

Had to move outside my comfort

And embrace the things I'd missed

When I woke up the next morning

And my blessings broke with day

Felt a love outside my body

Felt there was no need to pray

Brought my idol to the river

And with purpose left him there

Caught a glimpse of all my follies

Floating gently through the air

So I gave away my tension

And redemption flowed beneath

Then I skipped a stone towards my home

And let the ripples flood my bones

But my heart sank with the stone

I thought I threw away my magic

So I plunged into the deep

To find resistance to the tragic

When I burst out of the water

I raised my rock up to the sky

Now it sits upon my mantle

Don't you know that I touch it every single time that I pass by?

Sometimes twice!
