The World Turned Upside Down
My partner died suddenly aged 38 last August. She has a three day illness, it was shocking and awful but most of all confusing. I wrote this poem to express my confusion at this sad situation. I miss her everyday but even in sadness she has inspired me.
The snake flies and the worm walks
When the world turns upside down
Rain falls up and the mouse talks
When the world turns upside down
Beasts are men and dance till day
When the world turns upside down
When boys are bishops and yew is hay
When the world turns upside down
Lies are truth and no one blinks
When the world turns upside down
Rulers low and treacle drink
When the world turns upside down
The mask hides all and you are free
When the world turns upside down
Gloves warm heads and sky is sea
When the world turns upside down
The mad men rule and fire is cold
When the world turns upside down
The good die young and the bad grow old
When the world turns upside down"
I am terribly sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing this very personal piece of writing with us.
