Starving Wind- Original Poetry from the Helm- The U.S.S. MinnowPROSE!

in #poem6 years ago

Tumbled, rolling caught in winds.
the burn and tear and blister skin.

Hurling rocks and sand in droves.
Destroying farms, and every grove.

Locusts flight, a million wings.
Float on air that famine brings.

Plague, rot, and eaten fruit.
Barely sprouted or taken root.

Tilled soil that turns to dust.
Harvest tools that gather rust.

The hungry farmer watches on.
There is nothing. All is gone.

Burn the ground, raize the corn.
This land soon shall be reborn.

But until the crops regrow,
seeds must be planted deep below.

Idle hands result in hunger.
A frail child, a weakened mother.

The plague has come and taken all.
The wind is but a starving call.
