Appetite

More wholly than holy,
A loss of appetite
As life recedes
Easy as the tide

What can you tell me of hunger?
Whether it always remains
Or never was
Do you know more of the ache
In your belly
Or your hands
As you reach for that which lies
Just outside your grasp

Hands
Infinitely anxious
for more
and lips always longing
for the taste of life
