Trapped In a Chair

in #poem8 years ago

There once was a man who lived in a chair.
No coming or going, no here nor there.
Behind a sheer curtain is where he could be found,
Watching the hands of the clock go round and round.

From his bed to his chair he would rotate,
Day after day seemed to be his sealed fate.
Sitting and watching the world go by,
As others lived their lives without batting an eye.

It hadn’t always been like this, as he used to be strong
But the pain in his body had stayed constant and long.
Day after day, year after year
His life would be long and miserable he feared.

But the man had been loving, generous and kind,
Wanting to meet everyone’s needs, all of the time.
Going without and sacrificing for all,
Gave him great joy and allowed him to stand tall.

Then one day awoke a new feeling,
No longer able to lie on his back and stare at the ceiling.
His patience grew thin with many around
When he realized that selfishness and ungratefulness abound.

Expressing his thoughts and feelings of distress
Fell on deaf ears as if he’d made this mess.
Going so far as implying the end
The one who he loved most this message she did send:
"Being single is smarter than being in the wrong relationship"

Broken physically, and now emotionally as well,
The man retreated like a turtle would to its shell.
Living each day in fear and doubt,
Wondering what else he will have to go without.

Indeed it is true we all desire to be loved,
But if there are conditions upon it, it’s not from above.
Don’t be a prisoner of unhappiness and despair,
And don’t end up like me, trapped in a chair.
