Beloved Mother (Short Poem)

This momument bears no name or date
'Beloved Mother' is all that's engraved
But carved into this pillar of stone
The faces of four children alone
And below the text there is a groove
Where their loving hands wore it smooth

This is a poem I wrote during a tour of Glasgow Necropolis, I was struck by the perfect preservation of the children's faces, in such soft stone. Looking closer, I realized the only wear on the carving was just below the image of the grave, where the gentle touch of little hands had worn it smooth. Sadly, I was too distracted by the feelings to think to take a photo, the only one I could find without copyright was this small one from the Necropolis website, although a much better quality image can be found here. https://www.flickr.com/photos/pefkosmad/16600773003 You can just about see where hands have worn smooth and dark just below the carving of the tombstone.
