JUST US AND HOPE

No matter how much pain and betrayal we experience in our lives
No matter how closed off we become
Or how many walls we've put up
There is always a little hope
that someone out there is going to be different from the rest
They'll be the exception to all our self imposed rules
They'll be the one with the right key to our wrong lock
The one we finally let in
And let our guard down to
Because they'll understand us
We will be accepted as we are and loved right
Very deep down we always hope
That the next one is going to be that person
And we're always left utterly disappointed
When they are not
So we form another layer of hard shell
To keep the world out
And to retreat further within
Just waiting
Just alone with the annoying hope
That the next one will be different
