Episode 65: How the Market-based App DonorSee Helps Poor Families Worldwide with Gret Glyer

The Problem:
Over 50% of the world’s population lives on less than $5/day. Governments can’t possibly take care of the hungry and poor. With the money the gov doesn’t steal from us, we donate to various charities, but they are very inefficient and waste the donated money. Instead of going towards the cause which we donate for, the funds go into the hands of politicians and “well-connected” individuals. #notcool
DonorSee’s Solution:
Build an smartphone app that competes with the major charities, but give a better user experience, much higher % payout to the cause and more instant gratification with a community vibe.
Background:
While living in Africa, Gret Glyer saw a huge problem. Extreme poverty was a way of life and the current charity model simply wasn’t working. He had an idea, instead of joining the Red Cross and try to fix it from within, Gret decided to develop an app which allowed volunteers (such as himself) more easily raise money to fund their humanitarian projects. He calls it DonorSee.
He was dedicated to creating a new type of charity that didn’t pad the pockets of the government and their friends (like the Clinton Foundation) but instead would give the majority of the proceeds to those in need.
The difference with DonorSee is that it’s basically based on the Uber model of crowdsourcing and the sharing economy which leads to more transparency rather than giving to some huge, monolithic organization where funds tend to get “lost”.
Think about the following use-case:
You’re living in a place where people need financial assistance. Log in to the DonorSee app to help raise $ for a very detailed caused which YOU think needs attention. Take pictures and videos to show post them to the app and let the world decide if you cause deserves funding based on what you are looking to accomplish.
Gret says it’s easier to post a project (and image) on DonorDee than it is on instagram. I haven’t currently used the app, but I’ll report back once I do
There’s an obvious problem here…how do you know that someone is legitimate and “raising money for a mule” isn’t actually “send me money for beer”. Gret has already thought of this and added a reputation system (like Uber) to the app. If you have a good or bad experience, then report it directly in the app. Also, if you aren’t sure what cause to donate to, you can choose one of the “staff picks” which are even more pre-vetted. #problemsolved
DonorSee is already available and Gret has raised >$25k using it to help people directly. You can easily find him as a user after installing the app.

Bro, get these people on steemit! $5 a day is absolutely nuts! But there's a huge amount of room to improve that. I'm a tiny minnow, okay. I've made like ten bucks here in just a few weeks because someone thought I said a good thing. I'm definitely not saying these folks will have a first world experience from blogging, but even if they add a dollar a day to their cash flow, that's a 20% increase in income. And with this guy's idea, they could crowdsource a family laptop or a WiFi card or something.
IDK, maybe I'm just rambling, but I love this idea. I tend to hear about something and just ramble my immediate thoughts. Can't wait to listen to the episode, I've been jumping around a lot. I'm gonna go get the app right now. Such an awesome idea, putting the cause at someone's fingertips.

That's a really great project which pretty much every sensible individual want to see. https://smartcash.cc/ is also another great project that rips off many great things about Dash. Currently they are giving 70% of the block rewards to fund SmartHive community proposals. That's a crazy amount. Only 5% goes to mining, 10% for SmartNodes(Masternodes) and another 15% of people who are HODLing.
The wallets are really well done and UX is pretty good. I see a bright future for them.
the crypto/blockchain space is evolving so quickly. It's ridiculous.
Still there are times I wish to wake up in a world where blockchain tech has pretty much perfected itself. The logical extreme I want to see is smart contract powered quantum engineering tech. That would literally be God at your fingertips. People used to think AI was the big deal. let's wait for quantum engineering to develop itself.
Until that we are stuck with AlphaGo.

Yeh it's true @Libertyepodcast It would be great to help other needy people... In every country there is alot of needy people who don't have peny even to eat food and don't have clothes for wearing. Government don't support them and politicians are also corrupt due to corruption needy people don't get his rights .. I really appreciate your work. you are doing great job thank you.

It's be a wonderfull idea, I agree with you. We are living in a place where people need financial assistance. In my country of Pakistan, there are lot of people poor and in poverty, but no one who helps other like you.
