So What on Earth is Plogging?

in #plogging6 years ago (edited)

Plastic was a useful invention until it started to get out of control. People have been getting sick due to contaminated waters, or the unsightly overflowing garbage that brings about a foul atmosphere. But to no surprise, the major cause is no other than plastic. Compared to other containers we consume daily, plastic decomposes much slower. While they're not decomposed, they go elsewhere, even in your belly, perhaps. Dreadful!

Thank goodness there's a thing called 'Plogging' now!
Plogging, is a coined word from "jogging" and "plocka upp" which means, picking up. This first time I had a glimpse of this idea was on Facebook. A short clip showing how people in some foreign country were picking up litter as they were jogging. Some were carrying garbage bags. Some were inserting improperly disposed plastic bottles into their pants. Strange, isn't it! Luckily, it was strange enough to capture my attention.

Apparently, 'Plogging', is essentially the latest fitness craze in Sweden. If you must know, Sweden is only one of the very few countries where the recycling policy is most efficient. People do their little parts each day to have more than just a livable neighborhood.

Before I go more explicit about this topic, let me just tell you, that I have organized a Plogging event in Fun-Run fashion here in our district. Introducing it to people in different villages where the priority is sustaining daily necessities rather than collecting garbage, was sure difficult. The burden comes with the fact that more families in these communities prefer to buy in little amounts of commodity than they do in bulk. Hence, the 'sachet economy' enlarges and causes more plastic to burgeon.

As I take my high regards on these people's prior sentiments, I pursue, still, to educate them why Ploggging is a no downer for them.

Firstly, it's absolutely easy!
You just have to go about the neighborhood, bring your garbage bag, and pick up some pieces of garbage as you go.

Secondly, it's an amusing way of exercise where you and the environment can both benefit from!
Now, Mama Earth could always use some more loving from you just as much as you do your figure.

Thirdly, the result is rewarding!
I mean, who wouldn't want to have a beautiful, non-toxic community!

On the 29th of this April, we will emerge from our shells as young advocates of good will and greener pastures.
Beginning with ourselves, our communities, and our little ways, perhaps, we can make grand changes that would mold the future in its finest glory.

That's just about it for now. I'll let you all know how it turns out pretty soon.

And remember ...
Be Plogtastic
Be Zero Plastic.
