How to Run Plex on QNAP NAS.jpg
QNAP has got a great system built in which allows you to install almost all kinds of optional software in the system which expands the usefulness of the system. Plex is an optional package that you can install in your system for better streaming of videos. If you own the QNAP which is not Intel-based rather it is ARM-based, then the Plex will be installed on the system as a third party featured experiment. This is actually so because the ARM processors aren’t quite up enough for Plex to run completely so it proceeds with a caution. On such systems, it runs with limited capacity and if the QNAP you own is Intel-based then that would be good for you to install Plex on the system. The first thing to run Plex on your system is to head towards the application center, check the category list which is on the left-hand side of the homepage, you will get access to Plex after clicking on Entertainment.

Once Plex is installed on the system, you then need to click add to QTS+ button so that the server of Plex could be downloaded on your device. Not only installing it would be enough and you need to take a lot more steps in the Plex configuration. Go to the left, open My Apps and the Plex would appear there. There would be two options, On in green and Off in Red. Click on the green option to turn it on. Once it goes green click on OPEN. You can also open the management page for the Plex server in the web browser. The first thing to look for is My library section where there’d be a plus sign icon where you can add section tooltip. After clicking on that, you would be given 5 choices including Home movies, photos, music, TV shows, and Movies. You have to select the most appropriate choice with the content type you want to stream as the option Movies refer to the theatrical films.

The next step which you need to do is to tell the server where it could find your media and for this, you would be presented with QNAP’s directory structure view. It’s better to get your media server configured to find the multimedia directory. You need to get yourself specific by getting inside the Multimedia.

You need to repeat these steps every time you want to include a new section. Once you have followed these steps, the Plex server will start the process to scan your library and you’ll see movies and the shows and some other media categories begin to enter the database. One thing you need to keep in mind is that the scan can take some time to complete and if the scan is completed, even then it would take some time to download metadata on the library. Once you have done with scanning, Plex can immediately be used to start streaming the contents for your devices like computers, mobile phones and tablets and whatever else you can run that on. You don’t necessarily need metadata retrieval to finish the playback of your content.
