Life Of A Flower I Raised From Scratch Till Death

in #plant5 years ago

At the start od July, I bought a bunch of random flower seeds to sow them in my yard and see what happens. I sowed all the seed to several different places. After a couple of weeks in July, I saw the first little one came out of the soil. I am sorry I don't know how the name of this flower is in English. It is a big blower that should grow large and has several also large blossoms. I did a mistake sowing the seed so late in the summer, I should have done it in early May but I still waited eagerly what happens with the plant.

Eventually, I had plants started growing in several places I sowed them but they stayed small and didn't seem to grow any further. There was only one I put next to the tree that grew and grew over the weeks probably due to maximum sunlight opportunities.

This is the first photo I have of it when it was kinda large already, taken with a phone.

It was already a September and I was getting worried if its ever gonna bloom because there was only one month left of warm weather.
The plant larger in a month and finally there was a really small blossom starting to form. It was already early October and nights started to get really cold.
Since I got attached to this plant and it started to show signs of blooming, I decided to dig it up and bring inside the house to give it a chance. Otherwise, it would have just died due to freezing temperatures outside.

As you can see there is one big developing blossom and several other small ones.

Fortunately, the flower survived the replanting process.

After a couple of weeks, there was a full blossom developed of the big one.

By that time the plant would have been long dead If it were outside.
Sadly the blossom didn't grow any larger as it should have and the other ones never opened. From that time the plant started to show signs of weakening. Over the next weeks, it started drying despite watering. I think the reason is the lack of natural daylight because there simply isn't any sunlight nor enough daylight this time of the year in Estonia.

So the inevitable happened and today I took the last photo of the plant. As you can see its basically dead and there is no way it will ever grow any further.

At least I got to expand its lifetime by 2 months by digging it out and replanting it indoors.

Next year ill make sure to plant one early in the March or early May and see how large it grows then.

It's a marigold and it would be happiest if you could find a sunny place for it to grow, rather than under a tree

Trust me,it had a plenty of sunlight there in the summer.

Thamx for the name!

Pleasure! I am used to seeing them much more compact. Where I live, the sun is much stronger because I am much closer to the equator compared to you
