Plagiarism - Lesson learned the hard way!

What is plagiarism?

pexels-photo.jpg

Plagiarism is the act of copying someone else's content without providing the required attributions. Basically it is stealing someone else's content.

Why am I writing this?

I learned that it is wrong. But I learned it the hard way.
My post about drug abuse was flagged by @steemcleaners due to plagiarism.
I didn't know that taking a few lines or a paragraph is also considered as plagiarism.

Lesson learned

I was nominated for author of the day by @steemvoter and had a pending payout of around 395$ !
But it is slowly going down now and I think it will totally vanish.
But don't care about the money. All I care about is my impression as an author is at stake due to a silly mistake I made. I just hope it doesn't affect my credibility and reputation.

Resolution for the future

I have learned my lesson and I will be working hard not to repeat my previous blunder.
We all make mistakes. We should try to learn from them which I am happy to do.
From now on I will try my best to write everything on my own.
100% original articles will be my motto.
I'll always provide attribution to the sources.

I hope my readers will forgive me for my mistake.
Yours
Rahul.

It's called creative adaptation these days ☺️

Steemcleaner is overdoing it sometimes.

Have a great weekend.

It was a mistake on my part. Thanks for your kind words. :)

it's better to put ref links if you re-write in your own words

What about photographs?
Should we use only our photographs in our posts?

if you are the original taker of the photographs then it does not need to mention it, but, if photographs are collected then you have to cite the sources of them

I always used pics from google, but it looks like a lot of images are present at more than one source. Even if I mention a source and It is also present on another source, will I be flagged down again?

you need to mention every source of the photos you used in your article

Okay, got it.

Why? Sites such as pixabay and pexels do not require any attribution.

I'll be doing that from now on. :)

I feel you brother :(

My 4 posts are not showing because of being flagged. Looks like they have done a surgical strike yesterday night on a lot of people.

Always learn from your mistakes, that's the most important thing in life. Knowledge you gain along the way in life is worth more than any money.

Yeah you're absolutely right! Knowledge is power. :)
Thanks for stopping by mate!

Sounds like you're on the right path now and I hope everyone that knows the issue forgives and you prosper from your learning experience (people love drama) but please be patient, not everyone understands that even they (the people judging you) make mistakes needing forgiveness.

I hope you have a great day!

Thanks for the comment :)

I just realized you got flagged by a bot, that sucks... I don't think it's the best way to discourage plagiarism, it's not always intended and your post sounds like a great example of what can happen to anybody without preverification but the scary thought is what can come down the road, a world where the only way to be sure of original content is to have a bot rewrite your content line by line using tools like copyscape with tensorflow supported by natural language processing before posting. What an awful thought with potential of having to pay for content verification before posting. No thanks but hopefully I'm missing something about @steemcleaners.

Yeah well. Shit happens sometimes.

I do black and white photography, and I have once a month this. And who do not share the images in the right way.

I don't quite understand what you're trying to say..

I can see how some have come sometimes in my page and copy my pictures, and share it with in the socialist media... and not but may name there or links . This what I want say . I hope I text ok .
I'm sorry, my English is weak :)

I think he's saying that people visit his page and take his photos and do not attribute him correctly. :)

Oh I see. Maybe he could watermark them I guess

That's awesome that you're acknowledging what you did and are now wanting to grow from it. TRULY take this lesson to heart, though. It will take you far. Read all you can, formulate opinions, ideas, and write! That's fair.

This post shows that you have courage, and I respect that. I like seeing people who are able to confront reality in a fair, logical, rational way. Good job.

Thanks a lot man! I appreciate your kind words.
I believe that someone learns far more from his mistakes then anything else. Its what makes us grow.

EXACTLY. I'm glad to see that you are being open minded about this and allowing this to be a learning experience rather than just being mad about it. That's a great attitude to have in life and if you keep that attitude, you'll certainly go far.

I know. I'm ashamed of what I did. I'll never ever repeat this mistake ever again. I can promise you that.

Cool, now write an article for use to read or post some pictures for us to see!

Have you made an intro post yet?

Cool, now write an article for use to read or post some pictures for us to see!

I don't understand what you want me to write about.

Have you made an intro post yet?

I made an intro before but it was without any verification. Do you think I should make one more? With pictures and stuff?

I was just saying write anything haha. Just joking around.

Sure, I think that it would be fine to make a new introduction post not that you know how Steem works better than when you were new and stuff. The more pictures and information about the pictures, the better it will be. Show us your life, who you are, and what you are about!

Okay I'll do it then. But maybe a few days later. I first want to get out of this mess I got myself into. :(

Thank you for writing this apology post and owning up to your mistake. Nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes every now and then. I harbor no ill will toward you personally and believe everyone should have a second chance. It seems you've learned your lesson from this experience. So as others have said, let's all move on and I trust this won't happen again.

In the future, if you do want to quote a sentence or two from some other source, simply make it clear that it's not your own work and give credit to the source, like this:

According to this article on Wikipedia,

blah blah blah blah

Using mark up tags like > is a great way to make it clear you are using text from another source.

Alright, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for understanding. :)
