Why I Posted With @crazymumzysa, And Will Do It Again!

in #plagiarism8 years ago

@crazymumzysa has come under attack recently for a post that slipped through her vetting process and was discovered to be plagiarized. The backlash then caused her subsequent posts to return a much lower payout than usual. Earlier this week, before the issue arose, I'd submitted an article to her.

She contacted me, told me about what was happening, and asked if I still wanted to post under these circumstances. The articles posted before mine had each garnered less than $100. I told her that I wanted to continue with my post and that I would continue to post with her.

You can find the article here if you're interested.

But, Why? I could have gone to any number of other posters and not taken a risk.

  • It's what I would want someone to do for my mother

When I think of my mother, the thought of her being penalized for an honest mistake sickens me. The thought of her being abandoned after that sickens me more. I think of a human being that genuinely wants the best for everyone around her being shunned for being too trusting, and I just can't be part of that.

  • In the grand scheme of things, a plagiarized article is just not that important

If our biggest problem (by the way it's not) on this platform is a plagiarized post slipping through the cracks every now and then, we are doing better than every other social media, internet blogging, crypto-currency platform out there. The important thing is that when it happens, it is corrected and the error is not repeated.

Additionally, if we become known as a community of bridge trolls just waiting for somebody to come along and screw up, that becomes a much bigger problem than a plagiarized post.

  • I like the underdog

There's just something about the underdog story that I love. The come-from-behind win, against all odds, etc. I'm not saying this is a great example, because arguably @crazymumzysa has already had some success, but I wanted to be a part of the comeback!

  • I believe in my work

I put a lot of effort into each post. I run each one through a rigorous process. I proofread multiple times, run through Hemingway and Grammarly, and then add the markdown (sidenote: I use Byword and I love it). I put out a good product, and I am starting to see some sustainable success from it. I was not relying so much on @crazymumzysa's higher payouts (though that certainly helps), I need the publicity to continue to grow. I know that as a broader audience experiences my work, they will come to appreciate it. I don't care about the politics of the platform and I'm not going to whine about the voting system or the whales or the bots. I'm just going to keep putting out good product.

So, that's why I posted with @crazymumzysa, and that's why I will continue to post with her. As you can see, it's working out just fine.
