Pits of Despair, Part 2

II

I have a saying: "No good deed goes unpunished." My reward for serving an eight month medical mission in Nicaragua was five muggings in two nights over the Thanksgiving weekend in 2013. I sustained a fracture in each foot since the asaltadores liked to stomp on my feet during the assaults. I developed a Morton's Neuroma in my right foot which, according to my Podiatrist in Wisconsin, was caused by a bone fragment that irritated the Medial Plantar Nerve. It feels like I'm walking on a lump of clay. Another analogy is that of socks bunched up underneath the second and third metatarsals. It also hurts so badly that I need a cane. Disability Number One.
In descending order of pain, the others include:

  1. L4/L5 and L5/S1 herniated discs;
  2. Osteoarthritis both wrists, right worse than left;
  3. Osteoarthritis both knees, right worse than left;
  4. PTSD;
  5. Mood Disorder, NOS;
  6. S/p Acute Myocardial Infarction;
  7. Left ear deafness;
    Cervical spine OA;
  8. Bilateral cataracts;
  9. Anxiety;
  10. And the coup de grâce (French for "the death blow of Mercy"), Depression.

Can't see, can't hear, can barely walk or think. Oh, can't sleep either, because of entrenched insomnia from 20 years in the ER.

"Pop" Goes the Weasel." And my back.
