Hello and welcome to my blog. This promises to be another exciting post. Sit back and enjoy.

Managing finance is not something everyone knows or like to do. Many people are comfortable with keeping track of their daily income and expenses. They go to the extra length of having a spreadsheet or excel document where they input their daily details. That is for those conscious of their spending or income. We have another set of people that do not care about this. They spend as they earn. They see keeping financial records as stress and time-consuming. That is why you see them not able to account for their expenses a few days after payday.

Money has a huge impact on our everyday activities thus, it should be monitored. No-one wants to go broke all of a sudden due to funds mismanagement. That is why it is good to keep records. We have numerous ways to keep track of a user expense. It can be stored manually which is stressful and time-consuming, there’s also an automatic way where your only task is to enter the figures.

Introducing Piggybudget

Piggybudget is an Android application that helps a user keep track of his expenses. It is a very simple application with a simple interface that make it easy for anyone to understand, unlike other similar applications. Piggybudget is free to use with no ads. You don’t need to pay before using any of its features. This is a great plus that set it above the rest. Let’s take a look at some of the awesome features Piggybudget possess.

Simple User Interface.

Have you tried to check out a budget tracking application? Most of the applications have a very poor user interface with the features jam-packed together that even the most knowledgeable user is confused. This is not the case with Piggybudget have a very simple interface that is easy to understand.

The homepage is an example of that. With just two buttons named Add income and Add expenses users can start keeping track of their budgets. Clicking any of the buttons will display 12 symbols to choose from. These symbols represent a wide range of user activities that either gulp funds or bring in funds. They include foods, drinks, shopping, house, clothes, and others. Checking any of these options and then inputting the amount spent or gotten will be automatically recorded. I found this feature particularly useful because it saves time. I can easily pick a category symbol and input my figure. There is also a miscellaneous symbol there that users can select once their expenses or income doesn’t fit in the specified categories.

History

Just beside the homepage is the history button clicking the button will take you to the Piggybudget history page. Depending on whether you are a new user or an existing user the history page setup will be different. It is empty for new users but populated with expenses recorded for a regular user. The history page displays all the expenses income entered in a list mode according to time. You also have the option to edit any particular expense or income you entered and also delete it. This is one good feature that comes handy when mistakes are made during input of data as. You are safe with the knowledge that it can be rectified.

STATS

This is the real definition of keeping track of expenses. This page gives an in-depth summary of how you spend your money.
The stats page have three sections namely

  • Daily Expenses,
  • Daily Income, and
  • Distribution Expenses.

Each of this section possesses a week and month subtab with the exception of the distribution expenses that possess the week, month, and yearly subtab. The stats are shown in a stacked bar chart.

Daily expenses

As the name implies, it gives a summary of how much is spent on a daily basis and also what the money is used for. You can easily see that at a glance and also toggle between the weekly view and monthly view. This is a great function I like because it makes me know where my money is going and I can easily see what action is gulping my money and try to cut it down.

Daily income

20190519_154714.png
This is the opposite of daily expenses. You can easily view all incoming money and what means they’re coming from. It also has a weekly and monthly view.

Distribution expenses

This summarizes all the expenses in a pie chart format. You can see all the money going out and what to use them for in a pie chart mode. You can toggle between the weekly, monthly, and yearly view.

Piggybudget settings

20190519_154737.png
Piggybudget possesses a sharing function. You can export all your information inputted in a CSV format. It is useful because it acts as a form of backup. You can easily keep the CSV file in your PC, Cloud or anywhere safe for future purposes.

You may have noticed that the currency symbol is Euro and you may want to change it to your choice. Head over to the settings tab that includes a host of other countries currency to choose from. This will automatically change the symbol.

An interesting feature I like in the settings page is the ability to add income automatically on a daily or monthly basis.
Consider a salary earner on a $1000 monthly salary entering the same information as income every month is tasking. You can ask Piggybudget to do that automatically by simply selecting monthly as your income type and entering the figure amount in the blank text field. The app will automatically add the inputted salary every month. You can do the same for daily income.

Conclusion

Piggybudget is a great application that simplifies the way people keep track of their expenses. You don’t need to fret again. Now you know where your money is going and where it is coming from. You do not need to start thinking about what you bought, how much you paid the cab driver. Everything will be available on the go once recorded in Piggybudget. It helps improve the financial life of the user through simple money management.
The fact that Piggybudget is open source and free to download with no in-app purchase or advertisements make it a great application for everyone to have.
