Exploring The Golden Shower Flower

Cassia fistula, commonly known as the golden shower tree or Indian laburnum, is a flowering plant belonging to the Fabaceae family. It is native to the Indian subcontinent but is also found in other tropical and subtropical regions around the world.

The golden shower tree is known for its striking display of bright yellow flowers that hang in long, pendulous clusters. The flowers have a distinctively sweet fragrance and bloom during the spring season. Each flower consists of five petals and measures around 4-5 centimeters in diameter.

The tree itself can reach a height of up to 20 meters (65 feet) and has a spreading canopy of light, feathery foliage. The leaves are pinnate, meaning they are divided into multiple leaflets.

After the flowers fade, the tree produces long, cylindrical seed pods that can reach lengths of 30-60 centimeters (12-24 inches). These pods are initially green but turn dark brown when mature. Inside the pods, there are numerous black seeds embedded in a sticky pulp.

Cassia fistula is often cultivated as an ornamental tree in gardens, parks, and along roadsides due to its beautiful flowers. It is also the national flower of Thailand and is revered for its cultural and medicinal significance in several countries.
